Vertigo

“…I will break all my bones because I lied about the Vertigo”  This is another song from an artist that made such an impact on me in 2013.  It’s about overcoming your fears.  She’s been around for years but I discovered her last year.  Antje Dukevot is a singer/songwriter born in Germany but raised in the U.S. since she was 12.  Her songs all have such great lyrics!  This image is from her song “Vertigo.”  She compares taking a risk at love to the danger of being up on a highwire.  Her fear of heights really being her fear of taking a chance and being hurt.  This image is from the whole song but particularly from the very first line:

Song – Vertigo by Antje Dukevot

“You’re on a highwire, and i’m climbing out
and i feel the danger as i steal a kiss from your mouth
and i will try to hold steady
wanna make you believe
that the height of this tightrope is just second nature to me”

The frayed tightrope represents the vulnerability and fragility of risking your feelings.  We all know the rope is frayed when we take a chance at love, but we climb up anyway…don’t we?  Because the height and danger is so tempting.  She is climbing up there, but there will be “no safety net when I fall right out of the sky.”  What a great analogy.  She mentioned once at one of her performances, right before she played a song called Merry Go Round, that it was not one of her favorites, until a large corporation called and offered her a large sum of money to use it for one of their television commercials; she now likes it a lot more!  I guess I am not the only one that thinks she is great.  Thanks Antje!  Listen to her below.

The Moment

Finally!  It’s been 16 years!  Toad the Wet Sprocket has come out with a new Album.  It sure doesn’t seem that long.  I listened to them all the time back in the 90s.  Walk on the Ocean, When Will We Fall Down, all their best!  I loved this track “the moment” I heard it.  I have decided to try to create an image for all the songs that made such an impact on me in 2013.  So many good ones.  This image represents the whole song but especially this line from The Moment, by Toad the Wet Sprocket.

There is Nothing but the Moment,  Don’t you Waste it on Regret

This image came easily to me.  It is exactly how I picture the line.  The clocks on the ground represent all the moments she has wasted on regret.  The clock in her hand represents this moment…one she is holding onto tight..  The shroud represents the shame they mention in the very first line.  This is CLASSIC Toad all the way and I love that they have gotten back together and gone back to their old sound.  It was and is still great!  I’ve listened to it a hundred times already and I’m still not tired of it.

Thanks Toad!!
