I often think about one of the many reasons music and songs make such an impact on people. The simple fact that we can sometimes really relate to the characters and their feelings that are part of songs. Whether it’s losing someone we love, striving for something more, longing for something we don’t have, or just simply trying to find our way in life. This last one is what I related to the minute I heard the song so long ago. Who doesn’t at some point in their life, wonder what it is all about or how to discover who they are and what they are meant to do. Who doesn’t sit on a bus or subway, and make up stories about the people sitting across from them. I know I have many times. The combination of these things are what made this song such a vivid image in my head since the first time I heard it.
And of course, who rocks harmony better than Simon & Garfunkel, and of course Paul Simon is ONE of the most brilliant songwriters ever! The song is America from their Bookends album. Can you guess the line?

First Aid Kit, a Swedish folk duo, performed this this song at the Polar Music Prize Award Ceremony at the Concert Hall in Stockholm. What a unbelievably beautiful place, and the orchestra behind them. I loved this performance! Check out Paul giving them a standing O at the end!
